Agroecology

The use of our land, the land of all, must be carried out with social, environmental, and economic responsibility. The agroecological approach is in line with these principles.

Agroecology is a practice as old as agriculture itself. It is a science that brings together contributions from different scientific, ecological, and social disciplines. It integrates and applies traditional knowledge and local cultural practices of farmers to design and manage sustainable, diversified, resilient, healthy, and economically viable productive agroecosystems, with the goal of achieving food sovereignty and social justice.

Agroecology is a local/zonal approach. Instructions for agroecological farming cannot be dictated, but the criteria and core ideas are established: protecting the health of the ecosystem and its inhabitants.

Each system is unique and deserves to be worked as such.

Accompaniment

Agroecology invites to rethink the connection between territory and knowledge, experimentation and experience, academia and agricultural practice. From this perspective comes the Technical Accompaniment we practice with specialists in agronomy, veterinary, and interdisciplinary fields.

Training

Knowledge sharing and ongoing development are part of our agroecological approach. We offer seminars, open talks, workshops, and collective training spaces to promote soil care, biodiversity regeneration, and sustainable agroecosystems.

Resources

We provide different theoretical and practical resources related to agroecology, gardening, healthy cooking, co-innovation, and agroecological transition, as well as materials for group development, and more.

Technical Accompaniment

Witness

We develop group activities, assisting small and medium-sized family farmers, with the aim of supporting their continued presence in the countryside through an agroecological approach.

The proposal is structured by a team of agricultural and veterinary professionals, combined with the experience gained from our demonstration agroecological farm, through exchanges in promotional networks and training spaces with social and government stakeholders in the areas of research, rural development, and environmental care.

Dairy Team

The Dairy Team is co-creating knowledge through a transdisciplinary approach, involving producers, anthropologists, veterinarians, and agronomists to provide more tailored solutions for each specific system and generate useful information for technicians and producers who feel they are embarking on a transition toward agroecology, thus generating a more harmonious coexistence with the environment of which we are a part. We support a group of livestock producers who have a rational grazing system, located in Colonia and San José. Through meetings on the farms, we tour the properties and perform fine-tuning. It is noteworthy that new participants interested in the topic are always attending. The Agricultural Economics and Administration group from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (University of the Republic) is actively participating.
